Introduction
As a little girl, I was very clumsy. Every
week I would run home with either a skinned knee, missing or chipped
tooth, or a busted lip to my little ma and later on to my mother. I
continued with this pattern of injuries until I started to walk with
my head down so I could watch out for the cracks in the ground and raised
cement. I started to live life in fear and with much care because I
knew at any minute, I could and would fall.
As I got older, I noticed that my prudent ways didn't help much at all
because I continued to fall. But this time, it was over things that,
unlike the crack in the ground, I had no clue were in my path. It was
then that I realized I had stumbled into life and its many lessons,
despite how hard I might have tried to avoid them. Lessons from the
Fall is just that. This collection of poetry, thoughts, observations
and prayers touches on the many falls of my life and life in general.
From falling in love, to falling for self, to being confused and to
being hopeful, it is a reflection of the many seasons our lives go through.
As with many of our experiences, it is easy to keep what we're going
through to ourselves because we feel that others may not understand
or relate to us. But what good does it do if we keep these lessons inside?
Just think, your words might be the answer to someone's prayer who might
be experience their own fall. If not, your words might bring someone
else peace because it is then they realize they are not alone. At this
time, I open myself to you. There is a story waiting to be told behind
each stanza, a melody behind each verse. If you listen carefully, you
might remember feeling at one time whatever emotion each poem conveys.
With that said, I present to you pieces of Lessons from the Fall. Enjoy!
